The year is 3010. The place is the metropolis known as Doryan City. And things as we know them have changed.
One century ago, the first documentation of what they called 'subhumanism' was captured when a young woman from a wealthy background was revealed to have the ability to change into a white swan at will. Although the family first tried to cover the incidence up and obscure it from public knowledge, the shock and curiosity of society proved to be too much and the girl, Rachel Marie Buchanan, became infamous.
Although the phenomenon was at first embraced with wonder and curiosity, it wasn't long before humanity's dark side began to show itself. People began reacting with anger and disgust, uniting ironically in their other differences to condemn 'subhumans' to exclusion and near social banishment. As more and more cases of humans with these extraordinary abilities to change into animals became apparent, it was clear that new lines were about to be drawn.
Since that time, subhumanism has become more tolerated, but however is still significantly stigmatized. Its estimated that nearly half of the human population carry the genes for the ability, and that about 30% of them can actually make the change. Laws protecting subhumans are flimsy and violence is common. In fact, many subhumans are kidnapped, enslaved, showcased, bred for profit, killed, or otherwise controlled with little to no hope of any justice for their lives.
In Doryan City, the Aristocrats rule it all. Their boast is "Not a Drop of Beast Blood" among them- and as far as anyone knows, that's the truth. They keep the law on their side, and the interests of what they call 'Clean Humanity'- or the unaffected population. Though there is no proof of a connection, it is suspected that the bounty-hunters who hunt the subhumans mercilessly for capture and profit are beneath the Aristocrat's control. Although it is not certain that each Aristocrat is a cruel creature, their actions through time as well as their iron grip of the city speak volumes.
Across the spectrum are the Rebels. They are subhumans- or, as we prefer to be called- simply 'shifters' who will fight until the end for their rights and their freedom. The world is a Doryan City, and there isn't a place to call sanctuary. The Rebels work under the radar to shut down the cruel treatment of their brethren, liberate the captives, and crush the Aristocrat's empire once and for all.
Between the two, living everyday lives and hoping to make it to the next alive and free are what we affectionately call Strays. They are simple shifters who are hiding the most magnificent parts of them for their very survival, and who struggle to remain strong as they face death and fear nearly every day.
So choose your species, and choose a side. Not everything is what it seems and not everyone is what they appear to be on the flesh. Each day is a battle- what will yours be?
