THE ARISTOCRACY The Aristocracy has been in control of Doryan city for the past couple of centuries. Though it wasn't until the outbreak of 'subhumanism' that they became as good as kings over the urban sprawl. With Rachel Buchanan's infamy as the first documented shifter, the upperclass sweated and slaved to eradicate any further proof of contamination within their families, often committing those found affected or concealing their ability- or sickness, as it was seen- with every resource imaginable.
Three of the most prevalent families are the Troys, the DeNonnes, and of course, the Buchanans. The Troys are the most industrious of the three, with old money going back to the steel era. They're incredibly powerful, and the strong silent type who believe in action over words. If you make them an enemy, you will never hear it from their lips but rather watch your world crumble down around you. They are most infamous for their design of the Colosseum and Little Zoo, though nothing has been publicly proven.
The DeNonnes are the most sociable of the three who are most often depicted in tabloids and current news, known for their style, luxury, and escapades. They're the most blunt and outright about their opinions and have just short of openly declared having Shifters enslaved at their command.
The Buchanans are the oldest of the three with complex political ties and power. They're most brought about by ties to medical labs and institutes who are always working to find cures for 'subhumanism', and have led many a Shifter to early deaths at the hands of their scientists.
All three families have had some kind of involvement in Shifter trafficking and abuse, or have at least been around it frequently. Though some members, especially younger people, seem to not be as comfortable with it as the others, no one has yet taken a stand for Shifter rights while in the family name.
As of current, Johnathan Buchanan is one of the Elite's poster children, with his snug ties in politics, the Institute, and the family fortune.

THE REBELS The Rebels are the group of shifters who oppose the Aristocracy's control and seek to not only gain rights for shifters, but to also permanently end all oppression, cruelty, and intolerance.
When 'subhumanism' hit the news and millions of shifters worldwide became exposed, at first it wasn't such a bad thing, and though some people treated it as an abnormality, most people though it was interesting- an evolution even. But when that attitude began to change in the worst way, shifters soon learned that they had to protect themselves and each other if they were to survive.
Some groups decided to act offensively as well as defensively, targeting large cities and areas of heavy domestic control by elite, politicians, or small government. Some acted violently, some, just enough to get their point across, but regardless they all had the same goal- to overthrow the power. Since then, those groups have networked and united in many fronts, manifesting as a quiet, undetectable resistance that will take any opportunity to strike. Their goals, beyond destruction, have lately also expanded to liberation for their captive shifter friends who are captured by the Hunters.
The Hunters- bounty hunter humans, make a job of kidnapping. They are the most fiercely encountered front for the Rebels, and with whom most of the fighting takes place.
Though any shifter can be against the Aristocracy and Hunters, few actually declare themselves 'Rebels' alone since the admission can lead to intensely violent consequences for them. The best idea is to actually join the Rebel group, where there are safety in numbers if you decide to take on the radical freedom mindset. Good luck.
One of the current leaders of the rebellion is Dean Archer. (more information coming shortly.)

THE HUNTERS A notable group because of their infamy, the Hunters are simply a hired group of people whose job it is to capture and secure Shifters for whichever boss they have. Typically they are hired by the Aristocracy and are usually human- although can be Shifters as well in some cases.
Hunters make good money and have the security of the Aristocracy behind them, which is important in the turbulent city. Not all are cruel, some do it because they have to for financial reasons, or because of blackmail, threats, and so on.
Regardless, what they do... is a little more black and white. The big leagues of Hunters utilize 'The Pound', or what they technically call Subhuman Containment under the guise of protecting the public from dangerous shifting maniacs with the temperaments of wild animals. They use advanced technology to track, sedate or just secure, and contain a person before transporting them to the Pound where they are jailed. Although their facility is state of the art, the Shifters are smart, and more than one have escaped from that point.
Among their technology are chips that, when implanted within the shifter, allow for hunter control of their shifts. IE- can make them stay animal/human whichever. The chips last for a week due to the Shifter's rapid biological accommodation and ability to adjust to overpower the signals. Still, they're downright nasty.
Hunters are able to cross both lines and wander in any territory they please. Skirmishes between Shifters and Hunters are pretty common, and usually Hunters live in a secluded compound with high security provided to them by their wealthy bosses.
